Sinopsis
2027, un año después del final de la 4ª Guerra Mundial, el Oficial de Seguridad Pública Daisuke Aramaki recluta a la joven cyborg y brillante hacker Motoko Kusanagi para que investigue un devastador atentado que ha acabado con la vida de un traficante de armas sospechoso de estar vinculado a la misteriosa Organización 501. En la investigación también participan el cyborg Batou, que sospecha que Kusanagi es una criminal, el detective Togusa, que investiga una serie de asesinatos que podrían estar relacionados con el caso, y la Coronel Kurtz de la Organización 501, responsable de la cibernetización de Kusanagi. Entorno a ellos comenzará a formarse un equipo de agentes especializados en crímenes cibernéticos e informáticos como el mundo no ha conocido antes.
